Our school community is a constantly evolving one. Members of our community come and go. The environment in which we operate continues to change. Against this background of ongoing change, maintaining a sense of who we are as a school is a challenge. One of the ways in which we can continue to articulate who we are, is through the values shared by the different stakeholders in our school. Those shared values provide a yardstick against which we can evaluate decisions we have to make as a school. Our school held a values forum in Term 1 which involved parents and teachers. At the values forum the following core values for our school were identified. An important word that emerged at the forum was happiness. In reviewing the outcomes of the forum we took the view that rather than being a value itself, happiness is one of the outcomes we want to achieve from ensuring that we follow these values. How can I be involved? We are asking members of our community to take part in the process of creating robust definitions for our values that make our priorities clear. We are asking for expressions of interest from parents who would like to work on one or more of the values identified.
Interactive Technology In The Classroom
As of Term 1 this year Rose Bay Public School has been fortunate enough, with the ongoing support of our P&C committee, to embark upon a journey of interactive teaching and learning. . With the installation of interactive whiteboards across multiple K-2 classes combined with the installation of video projector systems in every single primary classroom, our classes are now moving towards the cutting edge of 21st century teaching and learning practices. . The successful implementation of these new technologies and the in-servicing and training of staff in their use is already paying dividends in terms of student engagement and academic success. . One teacher recently commented to me that within two weeks of these new technologies being brought into the classroom, the students in her class were navigating the OS as well as a range of applications and even making suggestions about how they could use these technologies to assist in the research of class topics in the future! . As the success stories keep coming in and our roll out of new technologies continues, the staff at Rose Bay Public School, myself included, are incredibly excited about what the future holds for our classrooms and for our students. . -Mr. Bradley McLeod Teacher |
